About JHS Custom Homes

JHS represents more than just my father's initials, it's a legacy etched in metal on tools I still use today. James Herbert Spalding marked his equipment with those three letters in old-school cursive, a permanent reminder of craftsmanship and ownership that I encounter every time I pick up one of his tools.

But JHS also means something deeper to me: it embodies the entrepreneurial spirit that drives my work as a custom home builder.

My father was a true entrepreneur. He started by working alongside his own father, Herb, pouring concrete. When he bought land and wanted a pond, he didn't hire someone—he bought a crawler and launched his own excavation company. When that land needed a home, he built it himself.

I founded JHS Custom Homes with that same philosophy: building out of necessity, solving problems with skill and determination.
